Remodel-a-holics Anonymous

Hi. I’m Julie. And, my wife and I are… remodel-a-holics.

*gasp*

Well… where do I start on this one. Let’s see, first off, Judy and I just spent a whirlwind weekend hammering away at the attic remodel… and mudding, and sanding, and painting… YES! I said PAINTING!!

We’ve officially started painting in our attic. At least in the bathroom! :)

Okay.. I’ll backup a step. We’ll start with Saturday. We got up early Saturday (well, okay, 9:30… deal) and started on the last layer of mud on the drywall. We spent the whole day mudding, then sanding again, then some touchup areas of more mud, etc. Up til 10:30 doing all that fun stuff! But, we finished it!

Sunday, we cleaned up that last little bit of sanding and spent a few minutes checking over the work to make sure it was safe to clean it up and move on. We cleaned up the drywall dust and started prep work for priming and texture.

By 4pm on Sunday, we had all the primer and texture on the walls, cleaned up and headed off to the movies for a break. :)

It’s amazing to see the difference from what that area first looked like, to a full, REAL room.

Monday, I had the day off - perks of working for the state - and spent the day putting up the wainscoting and the trim around the window. (I have yet to add the finish molding to the window, but it looks good!

Pictures up to that point are below:

Sunday morning: prepping for priming and texturing. Window area with p.i.t.a. triangle above. (Don’t EVER drywall areas like that!!! Ugh! Judy covering the shower prior to priming and texturing. (That stuff gets everywhere and is difficult to get off.)
Saturday: Linen cabinet and future sink. Last layer of mud. Finished priming!!!! (We danced and shouted for joy! ;)
Finished priming. Open ‘breeze thru’ window between shower and toilet stalls. We’ll add a small shelf later. Look at that primer! Snazzy, huh?! :)
Monday: Julie added the framing around the window. Simple 1x4 pine. We’ll add a nice modling around the outside edge to finish it later. Facing toilet stall. Window frame and wainscoting. Note: The window will be stained to match the floor. Notice the gorgeous floor!!! :)

Wednesday, Judy will start the final floor details - sanding, staining and poly - so the plumbers will have a ‘finished’ area to work around with when they come on Monday to install the toilet, pedastal sink and shower stall doors.

We’re both extremely excited about this step. I know I’ve said it before, but this stage REALLY changes the look and feel of the entire room. A nearly completed room. (All that will be left in the bathroom will be trim around the flooring, finish molding around the window, chair rail on the wainscoting and the built-in cupboards. Not much, considering! :)

Please check back often, as things will be changing a little more quickly now. Cross your fingers that we can move into the attic - Our Haven! - in a few months!

Thanks all! And, Peace!

Julie
