Back in the Job Market

Good evening, everyone! Yes, yes… I know. It’s been a long time since I really updated my pages. I do have a good reason, though. I’ve been quite busy preparing to look for new work. And, yes… it’s okay to post it here, because my employers already know. In fact they’ve been a huge help!

Unfortunately, the Arts industry - all over - is hurting lately. People just aren’t coming to see good shows anymore. And, we’re no exception here. Almost two weeks ago now, myself and 5 of my coworkers were told our contracts couldn’t be renewed for the next fiscal year.

What does that mean? In simple terms, it meant we were given 6 months notice. As much as the news really sucks, I know our employers tried their best to not let it happen. Sometimes there’s just nothing anyone can do.

Let me guess: Right now you’re thinking “Hey! You just got canned! Why are you taking this news so well?” Well, it’s simple… I believe things happen for a reason. And, for me, I believe this was my ‘kick in the pants’ per se, to get out and find something that will let me dive more into the web-development side of things that I’ve been wanting to do.

As great as my job here was, I couldn’t dive into the web-related programming I’ve been itching to learn for a few years now. I think this will be a great opportunity for me. :)

So… I have a request: I am looking for work in the web-design field, in a position that will allow me (or force me) to learn more Java, JavaScript, ASP, Macromedia Flash, data-driven site building and more. I want to learn!

If you know of any businesses in the Green Bay, Fox Valley or Oshkosh areas looking for someone, please pass along my resumé and portfolio site: www.JulieBerglund.com. It has all the information they’ll need. (I hope :)

For now… it’s back to work. Thank you and Happy Holidays!
Jules
